When you buy a house that hasn’t been painted in 30 years and finally put some paint on that thing.

All these yuppies are contributing to gentrification in my neighborhood with their mid-century gray tones and turquoise accents.

gentry

In Britain, 'gentry' is the term applied for those people who belong to the upper class with country estates often (but non always!) farmed on their behalf by others, and who may be without a peerage or other hereditay title.

housewives who force their husbands to buy huge expensive gas guzzling SUV's but have no purpose for them other than to get groceries.

kelsey: you better buy me an escalade.

matt: ok

bernard: why do you need an escalade? you have no kids. all you would be doing is getting the groceries.

matt: dude, wtf? the costs outweigh the benefits.

bernard: your wife is so dumb just like all the other grocery getters.

Gertrude's Law

Hamlet's mother, Gertrude, is famous for her quote "The lady doth protest too much, methinks". Gertrude's Law states that if a person is overly passionate about condemning a certain lifestyle choice, they most likely engage in that lifestyle secretly. Some notable examples are Jimmy Swaggart, Ted Haggard, and most recently Arifinto, an Indonesian MP who helped pass an anti-pornography law. He was later photographed looking at porn on his iPad during a parliamentary debate.

That family values preacher just got caught at a glory hole. It looks like further proof of Gertrude's Law.
