An acronym for "State Housed And Violent". New Zealand's answer to chavs and white trash. Normally have 5 children to different partners whilst collecting the DPB (Domestic Purposes Benefit), and spend all of their money on pokie machines.

Shavs are most populous in poorer suburbs of major cities in New Zealand.

The uniform of shavs is fake Louis Vuitton bags (much like fake Burberry of chavs), mini skirts and ugg boots for shavettes, and, baggy jeans and hoodies for male shavs.

Can you believe that Michael is interested in going out with that skanky shav? And to think he went to Kings College. His poor father must be turning in his grave.

Originates from the British term 'chav' that has spread to various other worldy cultures, in this case, South Africa.
