pirate radio

An unlicensed radio station, often broadcasting political or controvercial material. The term was coined in the 1960's with "Radio Caroline", which broadcasted from a ship just outside of British territorial waters. Today's pirate broadcasters often play dance music not normally heard on comercial stations, or are intended to provide entertainment or opinions outside the mainstream.
The pirate radio station broadcasted trance music into the early hours of the morning.

Term used in the gaming (gambling) industry to describe gratuities given to frequent gamblers or high-rollers. Trunication of "complimentary" and often used as a verb.
Harry's uncle got comped a steak dinner at Harrah's after winning at Craps.

space monkey 

Someone who is impossable to communicate with when they are under the influence (Taken from the chimpanzees used in the early days of teh space program who were impossable to communicate with when they were in orbit).
Jerry's gone space monkey on us. Three tequilas and he's in his own orbit!

Rube Goldberg

An unlikely and absurdly designed machine intended to perform a simple function in the most complicated and indirect way. Named in honor of Reuben Lucius Goldberg (1883-1970), an engineer with the City of San Francisco Water and Sewers Department who became a Pulitzer-Prize winning cartoonist, sculptor and author. His long-running comic strip, "Inventions", displayed many such devices of his own design.
My Grandfather built his own fuel injector with a Rube Goldberg set-up made of old plumbing parts.

road warrior 

A travelling business person who spends much of his time on the road, driving between meetings or presentations. The name is taken from "The Road Warrior", the US title of the Australian action film "Mad Max 2".
Sahda's a serious road warrior. She's clocked 12,000 on her car just driving to give presentations.

A state of surrealism, where things that should not make sense seem to do so. Term taken from the 1960's TV show hosted by writer Rod Serling.
