orginiating from Alduous Huxley's mescaline trip, a book "Doors of Perception" was written based on a quote often attributed to William Blake: "If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear to man as it is, infinite."
The doors, are an integral part of the pyschadelic journey; or a transcendental breakthrough. To see through the door of this reality into another reality or dimension, is to acknowledge the "matrix", or illusory reality and know that truth exists beyond.

Nathan is outside Haley's house throwing rocks at a window, Haley walks up behind him
Haley: Are you trying to wake up my parents? That's their room...
Nathan: runs over to Haley I just wanted to come by and apologize for last night...
Haley: You know you should probably start buying those in bulk if you're gonna hand them out so often
Nathan: I'm not good at this okay? I'm not you.
Haley: What's that supposed to mean?
Nathan: I'm not perfect okay? I screw up, I make mistakes, it's what I do...
Haley: ...Nathan, there is nothing that you could do or say that's gonna change my mind...
Nathan cuts her off with a kiss
Haley: Except that. You shouldn't have done that Nathan...
Nathan: But I wanted to
Haley: Yeah...
grabs Nathan and starts kissing him

Its literal meaning in Japanese is 'boy love'. In Japan, it's associated with paedophilia and is an obsolete term. In the West, however, it's taken on new meaning to refer to the less graphic depictions of male/male romantic relationships aimed at women. More descriptive art and fiction are often referred to as yaoi. Female/female relationships are called either shoujoai or yuri, depending on how graphic they are.
Many people have different attitudes to its use. Others will demand you use the term BL/boy's love as they do in Japan, some will say it covers all m/m relationships, but most follow the above description.
