Definitions by karl

within skateboarding, there are two definitions. one is the act of flipping your entire body (along with the skateboard) around in mid air; either upside down (frontflip/backflip) and/or sideways (barrel rolls, toe side and heel side). these types of flips are normally done on a half-pipe, or at least a ramp big enough to do them, because you need a fair amount of height in order to do them without landing upside down.

the much more common definition is the act of fliping only the skateboard and not your body. this can be done with the hands, but is normally done by snapping an ollie and sliding your feet off the board in a way that keeps it under you and also flips it over.
there are many kinds of flip tricks, and these aren't even all of them:
heelflip
kickflip
varial kickflip
360 flip
shove it
hardflip
inward heelflip
etc, etc.

stripper

an occupation that involves taking (stripping) one's clothes off for the sexual stimulation of others. most strippers are female.
when a woman is a stripper, the only thing she has to be proud of herself is her body. her mind, her creativity and her emotions ultimately become something of little value and importance. it is depressing to know that some women think that the only thing valueable about themselves is their body and what they can do with it.

one of the most wanted sounds in electronic music, rivaling the tr-808, tr-909 and several moog synths. It was supposed to sound like a real bass guitar, which it totally sucked at. so roland, the manufacturer, stopped making them pretty quickly, so they're kinda rare. after that, house Djs in the 80's started messing around with them (Dj peirre?) and found that you could make some pretty wild sounds with them. 303s eventually came to form their own style of music Acid, where the 303 is in basically every song, or at least another synth trying to sound like a 303.
the 303 is actually a very simple synth, considering it only has one oscillator, only two waveform options (saw, square) and a (wicked) lowpass filter. so basically the filter is the best thing about it. it also has a built in sequencer, which allows you to program your bassline into it, then hit play and tweak the filter while it plays, making a freaking awesome sound! people also put effects on it, like phasor, distortion, and delay.

one of the best synthesizer manufacturers ever. started by bob moog, inventor of the VCF (voltage controlled filter). not surprizingly, the filters on a moog synth are wonderful. if you have a moog, rejoyce! you have a serious machine.
it actually rhymes with the word vogue, though everyone still calls it mooooog.

2. a style of music that uses breakbeats. common artists include but are not limited to the chemical brothers, the crystal method, fatboy slim, etc.
8th notes on the hi-hat is assumed here.

each dash is one 16th rest.
