Padawan

A Jedi apprentice, assigned to accompany a Jedi Knight while learning the ways of the Force. Similar to a journeyman in a feudal guild.
Anakin Skywalker became Obi-Wan Kenobi's Padawan learner, even though Obi-Wan had only just become a full Jedi Knight.

people traffickers

Undercover travel agents working in the shadow economy, offering transport to people who wish or need to travel internationally, including refugees fleeing persecution; and/or people from whatever background who help migrants to evade racist restrictions on freedom of movement between countries, including those who help refugees escape from persecution.

This is a recently INVENTED word which has appeared in the mass media, perhaps from the Millbank spin machine, in an attempt to justify attacks on the right of refugees to flee oppression, torture and death. It did not exist until about a year ago. It is used as an excuse for persecuting refugees and those who transport them, by likening the latter to drug and arms "traffickers" (although genealogically, to "traffick" simply means to move something from one place to another - in which case all commercial pilots, bus and train drivers and people who take passengers in their cars are strictly speaking "people traffickers" - it is linked to the word "traffic", used to refer to lots of cars etc. in one place; this use, however, is archaic, and to traffick now means to smuggle illegal goods).

It basically means that the people who use the word think that people - especially black people - are THINGS which can be OWNED and therefore TRAFFICKED like drugs and arms; worse still, that people are ILLEGAL goods to be trafficked and owned. Its use is evidence of the barely concealed racism of the government and the corporate media as well as all the sheep who buy into the filth they spout.

It has become popular partly because of a lot of publicity surrounding sections of migrancy which are run by organised criminals and involve the establishment of sex slavery and forced labour. However, the laws brought in against "people traffickers" are typically aimed at ANYONE who transports migrants, including refugees, and so could even apply to heroic people such as human rights activists who help people flee oppression.
New laws against people trafficking increase penalties for concealing migrants inside one's vehicle.

normality

A variety of mental illness typified by symptoms such as an incapacity to differentiate oneself from others, an obsession with the maintenance of meaningless rituals provided these are also prevalent among others, and a pathological gullibility towards claims made by others with the same condition.

Sufferers often experience acute delusions, such as the belief that the present global system functions effectively.

People suffering from Normality can be extremely dangerous in large numbers, since they often maintain that only their own interests and needs, and not those of other psychological groups, are relevant in determining social policy.

Normality is currently incurable, although some evidence suggests that MMR vaccine offers a potential cure.
Unfortunately, the majority of psychologists and psychiatrists are among those suffering from this disorder.

bakunin

Leading anarchist theorist of the nineteenth century. Author of "Statism and Anarchy", "God and the State" and a number of critical essays on Marxism.

Best-known for the slogan, "the urge to destroy is a creative urge" (as in, "I want to create some smashed glass from that McDonald's window over there") - very much a spiky. The basic idea here is that clearing space occupied by existing (violent) relations is necessary to create the possibility of a new, liberated world.

God and the State is a strongly-worded attack on Christianity for enshrining the idea of unequal power in metaphysical absolutism. "If God existed we would have to overthrow Him". "A boss on heaven is a good excuse for a boss on earth". Bakunin is a strong materialist, one of a number of similarities with Marx.

In Statism and Anarchy, he analyses international relations from a perspective which, in common with conventional IR Realism, maintains that states are inherently violent and try to take over as much territory as possible, but which, unlike IR Realism, uses this as a basis to condemn the state.

His critique of Marxism is based on its alleged authoritarianism, especially in terms of the idea of dictatorship of the proletariat. He claims that Marxian socialism would inevitably degenerate into a dictatorship by a small stratum of intellectuals and bureaucrats because of its centralism and its lack of support for grassroots activity; also that the better-off workers would rule at the expense of the "lumpen-proletarian" (socially excluded) poor and the peasants. Marx and Engels try to rebut these claims in various essays, accusing the Bakuninists of taking a dogmatic approach to political action and of succumbing to bourgeois nationalism.

Today, his work is popular with both anarcho-communists and green anarchists, although they do not usually adopt his peculiar ideas on organisation (emphasising small numbers of professional revolutionaries as a catalyst for a movement which was nevertheless to be popular and mass-based) or his personal prejudices.

Down-sides to Bakunin's work include his nationalistic chauvinism and anti-Semitism. Also, he didn't clarify his own theoretical ideas; most of what he wrote is either short pamphlets or is incomplete.
When Bakunin's train broke down, he saw a crowd of peasants outside a castle. By the time he got back on, the castle was on fire.

Stop spouting all that right-wing shit, or I'll do a Bakunin on your ass.
