Inwood

The northernmost neighborhood in Manhattan, everything above Dyckman Street. Technically speaking, however, Marble Hill is the northernmost Manhattan neighborhood. However, people consider Marble Hill to be part of Kingsbridge in the Bronx, which it is not.

Inwood is above Dyckman, Washington Heights between 155th and Dyckman, and then Harlem, East Harlem, and Morningside Heights after that. Marble Hill, Riverdale, and Kingsbridge are north of Inwood.

Woodlawn

An Irish neighborhood (well, THE Irish neighborhood i guess) in the Bronx, NY. Main drags are Katonah Avenue, and McLean Avenue (which is technically in Yonkers, but is usually considered part of the neighborhood because the Irishness extends into Yonkers for a few blocks.) Woodlawn and McLean Heights are often collectively called Wood-Lean.

Woodlawn is 60% Irish.

Eastchester

A town in Westchester where kids think they are "niggas" who are "from" the South Bronx because they lived in the Bronx's upper middle class Country Club section until age 1.

Upstate New York

A mountainous version of the Midwest. Country life at its worst. Upstate is very distinctive looking from other similar areas (Western Pennsylvania, the Midwest, New England) and it all looks exactly the same.

Two places upstate 50 miles apart look more like each other than two places in Yonkers two BLOCKS apart.

rockland

A county in NY that everyone except itself seems to regard as part of a depressed region known as Upstate New York. While that may not be entirely accurate, Rockland county is an outer-suburban wasteland, not even on par with Westchester in terms of wealth and urbanization (as sad as that sounds.) However, it does have some Sopranos fame; Ralph Cifaretto's head was buried in Sloatsburg and Adriana was whacked by Silvio in a forest in Ramapo.

Rockland is literally and figuratively between Jersey and Upstate, though not quite either.

MurDaVille

Mount Vernon, NY. Near Yonkers and the Bronx. Used to have a large Italian-American population in the 60s and 70s, then a large black population moved in and the Italians moved to Eastchester (the next town up). Since then it has turned into a shithole.

MurDaVille is near my hometown of Yonkers.
