A county in NY that everyone except itself seems to regard as part of a depressed region known as Upstate New York. While that may not be entirely accurate, Rockland county is an outer-suburban wasteland, not even on par with Westchester in terms of wealth and urbanization (as sad as that sounds.) However, it does have some Sopranos fame; Ralph Cifaretto's head was buried in Sloatsburg and Adriana was whacked by Silvio in a forest in Ramapo.

Get the westchestermug. A place predominantly known for its racetrack. Otherwise regarded as the "6th borough" of NYC (sometimes Jersey City/Hoboken is the 6th boro however.) For those of you not familiar with it, most of Yonkers is like Staten Island without the landfills; the downtown area is similar to Newark, N.J. Though located in notoriously wealthy Westchester County, Yonkers is largely middle and lower middle class and has little in common with the rest of the county and is probably more like New Jersey (Of course, this would have been an insult before the Sopranos made Jersey hip).
The two main ethnic areas are McLean Avenue/Woodlawn (Irish) and Dunwoodie (the Little Italy of Yonkers, where you literally can find people who look like they could be on Tony Soprano's crew). There is also an upper middle class area called Crestwood which doesn't like to identify with Yonkers.

Get the super flymug. A mountainous version of the Midwest. Country life at its worst. Upstate is very distinctive looking from other similar areas (Western Pennsylvania, the Midwest, New England) and it all looks exactly the same.
Two places upstate 50 miles apart look more like each other than two places in Yonkers two BLOCKS apart.

Get the Upstate New Yorkmug. An inferior version of Yonkers. The northern half of Mount Vernon is a boring area called Fleetwood that looks like a clone of New Rochelle. The south side is a hellhole ghetto with like 2 white people which adjoins the similar Wakefield section of the Bronx.
Yonkers has 25 distinct neighborhoods. Mount Vernon just has Fleetwood. Who's more culturally sophisticated?

Get the mount vernonmug. A neighborhood in Yonkers, New York. Thought of by Yonkersites as being its own "stuck-up town", Crestwood chooses not to identify with the rest of Yonkers. It is entirely residential, middle to upper-middle class, and to compound their sense of being separate from Yonkers, it shares a zip code (10707) with the neighboring town of Tuckahoe.
Crestwood is the northeasternmost section of Yonkers, bound by the Yonkers city line and by Scarsdale Road, Crisfield Street, and Central Avenue. (plus maybe a couple of blocks over those boundaries.)
