Darkness
Kind of like the movie Inception, people don't realize there was anything strange about a dream until they start to wake up, people don't realize there was anything strange about the darkness until they wake up and start to fight.
The darkness seemed like a new normal, it didn't seem strange until some people remembered that never was an old normal, and that life was always a little dysfunctional for most people.

Darkness
The day a community knows it doesn't need uplifting from an outsider or from anybody is the day the community emerges from darkness. There is no light at the end of a tunnel, as people were promised, but they have to help themselves figure that out on their own.
The community was liberated from the darkness when it knew it would never need uplifting or morale boosting from anyone or anywhere, because people were already happy enough there without assistance.

Alternate Good Will Hunting ending
A few unhappy endings that an audience wouldn't like that would turn Good Will Hunting from a comedy to something else are Matt Damon doesn't go to California to look for the girl, she cries inconsolable for a short while, then marries another guy, while Matt Damon stays in Boston going to Little League games long enough for Ben Affleck to follow through on his promise of killing him (a fact and not a threat in his words). Ben Affleck would think he was doing the world a favor, kind of like the Of Mice and Men story, and puts a bullet in the back of his head down by the river, dropping his body to the bottom. Another possibility Robin Williams provided was for Matt Damon to become another unabomber, perhaps he puts a bomb in the mailbox for Skylar's husband to open, but instead of him being the one to check the mail that day, Skylar is disfigured forever or killed by the bomb when she opens the mailbox, and Matt Damon has to live with that for the rest of his life. There's more possibilities than just those two that nobody explored.
An alternate Good Will Hunting ending would have been more interesting than the one the audience got.

Goofus
Goofus became wicked due to lack of corporal (of/to the body via Latin loan words) punishment as a kid. Goofus thought that it was okay for him/her to hit others, but that it was a crime for anyone to hit him/her because of Goofus's upbringing, though Goofus would always claim that he/she was hitting back or that it was self-defense no matter what if he/she knew that the right authority figures were watching or listening.

Goofus
Goofus became a goofus due to a lack of corporal (to/of the body via Latin loan words) punishment as a kid, and thought that everyone else became (got to become) a goofus as a kid too.

Robert Ford
Goofus of the Goofus and Gallant short stories from the kids Highlights magazines that were out back in the 90's. Neither of the two charcters was superior to the other, but they were clearly different kinds of people.

Mollycoddle
Someone that can't take criticism that is otherwise not unfair or illegitimate because they don't like it.
It's one thing to feel outraged by criticism that isn't based on what a person is really like, when it is full of falsehoods and malicious intent and the other person is just talking shit. Nobody likes to be criticized, but really it's a matter of whether the criticism makes sense or is not unfair to the other person, and it doesn't have to be good natured to be legitimate. To a mollycoddle, it all sounds like abuse or misjudgement.
