ninjutsu

Ninjutsu is the collection of Martial ways learned by Ninja of fuedal japan. There is no magic involved-a misconception developed from the old days, where people didnt understance science the way ninja did, and labelled some things as magic. Ninjutsu consists of the Ninja Juhakkei, 36 ninja essensials such as
Bikenjutsu:Ninja's sword method (including Ninja-to, Odachi,Nodachi,Tachi and Nito-Ichi-Ryu)
Taijutsu: Ninja's fighting method (Togakure Ryu ect)
So-jutsu: spear technique
Naginata-jutsu:Halberd techniques
Bisento-jutsu:Battlefield halberd techniques
Kusarigama-Jutsu(Kyoketsu Shoge): Sickle and chain techniques
Rokushakubo-jutsu:6ft staff techniques (full staff)
Sanjaku Bojutsu + Jojutsu:Half and 3 quarter staff techniques
Shuriken-jutsu and Senban Nage Jutsu: Blade throwing

Inton-no-jutsu: Dissapearing techniques
Hokojutsu (Aruki):Stealth Walking techniques
Henso Jutsu:Disguise
Kakushi Buki-Jutsu:Secret weapons (Shuko, Sokko, Nekode ect)
Ninyaku-jutsu:Special medicines and drugs
Gunryaku-Heiho: Stratagies
Tenmon and Chimon: Stratagies using heaven and earth.
Taijutsu is usualy considered the most important of these (besides spiritual refinement) as it taught the ninja skills such as Sabaki (sword evasion) Taihenjutsu (acrobatics and rolling techniques+breakfalling) and fighting methods.
learning the bodys Kyusho (pressure points)
Throwing techniques (including lock-throwing)
Grappling techniques
Striking techniques (ect Shikan-ken, Boshi-ken)
Nearly all sources besides sources of the Genbukan, Bujinkan and Jinenkan are incorrect about Ninjutsu. Also, things like *Chakra* are a lot of rubbish. Kuji Kiri (hand symbols) do exist, there are 9 main and over 50 others, but they are EXTREMELY secret(the others besides the 9) so most people just make them up.

ninja

Ninja were people of feudal japan trained in Ninpo or Ninjutsu. It was possible to use skills learned in assasination-which was done, but not coldly. Ninja's were japans peace keepers and information gathers-they would assasinate political powers that threatned peace of japan, and would often be recruited by a higher power (such as a warlord like Oda Nobunaga, or Ieyasu Tokugawa) to spy on enemy's and gather information. Ninja were originally called *Shinobi*, literally translating into a expert at information gathering. Ninja groups were divided into families and clans. The two regions were Ninjutsu developed and Ninja were founded were Iga and Koga provinces. there were roughly 53 subgroups of Koga and Iga. One of the most famous Ninja in history was Hattori Hanzo-a famous warlord and Ninja of Iga.

Daito

Daito-meaning large sword. A Daito is actually a Katana, though misconceptions say it is larger. The term Daito would be used if the Katana was larger then average, such as Musashi Miyamoto's Katana, since he was well above average height, his Daito was over 30 inches in length, while most Katana's of the time were 26-29 inches.

Ninpo

Ninpo is another word for Ninjutsu-The martial arts of Ninja (or Shinobi and not well known Kancho). Ninpo represents the larger scale of ninjutsu-The spiritual aspects (including Amatsu Tatara, spiritual refinement ect) and the Physical aspects (Taijutsu, Bikenjutsu, Sojutsu, Naginatajutsu ect). Collectively they are called Bumon and Shumon, and make up Ninpo. Ninpo translated as *Ninja law* would be incorrect, Ninpo actually translates as *Higher order of Nin*, *Higher order of Ninja* or *The way of Nin/Ninja* ect. The Nin simboll consists of uper radical and lower radical's, upper being Yaiba being a sword, lower being Kokoro/Shin being heart. A misconceptional translation of the word Nin would to put the blade over the heart which sounds sinister, but actually it represents preservance and endurance. Po consists of two radicals, the left radical being Sansui meaning water and Saru meaning to go fourth. Putting them together literally means water going forth but on a deeper scale implies the water cycle, and when Po is used in Ninpo, relates to the term Do used in many arts meaning The Way.
Ninpo is the higher order of Ninjutsu, representing Bumon and Shumon, The left and right hand, representing Yin and Yang.

Katana

The Katana is a single edged curved steel weapon, used by warriors of fuedal japan. It is made by forging and folding steel to rid it of impurities, then coating the cutting edge in clay, heating it up and quenching it to harden the cutting edge, revealing is called a temperline (Hamon). The Katana was a decorative peice of art as well as a weapon, consisting of a Tsuba (hanguard) Tuki Ito (handle wrap, usually coloured) and other intricate artistic fittings. The Katana is not superior-but amazingly strong and sharp for a small thin weapon. Under controlled test conditions, a Nihonto (japanese made katana) was able to shatter a .45ACP round without sustaining damage, and widthstood 7 direct hits from a M2 HMG (heavy machine gun)with its .50BMG armour piercing round before shattering.
The katana came into use in the 1400's, before hand the Tachi was used, a longer sword used on horseback and worn in a different manner. Before that were the straight blades, Chokuto, from China. The katana is usually worn with the cutting edge (Ha) facing upwards, thrust through an Obi (belt). On rare occasions, The Katana was worn blade down (sometimes when armour was worn). It was usually the primary weapon of a warrior or Samurai, though in wars Yari (spear) were prefered due to the damage they inflicted on Armour, along with Maai (distancing).
His katana moved swiftly to shatter the opponents defenses.

taijutsu

Taijutsu is the empty-handed fighting system of the Ninja. Points that the body strike with (also called natural weapons) are the head, the mouth (in one technique called Shi-Ken)the shoulders, fist knuckles, the palms, the edge of the hands, the finger tips of the hands, the 2nd knuckles, the bottom of the closed hand, the elbow, the hips, the knee's, the tips of the toes, the edge of the feet, the flat of the feet and the heels. Taijutsu utilizes striking techniques, throwing techniques, escape from locks and throws, Sabaki (sword evasion), Taihenjutsu (acrobatics, rolls, breakfalls), locks, grappling and disarming techniques. High level taijutsu deals with daken-tai (practical patterns-when the techniques are carried out against a striking opponent)with swords, instead of evading, simply combating them. This is called Muto meaning *no sword* and it is when Taijutsu becomes non-empty handed and deals with tools such as Shuko to grab weapons with. Taijutsu also deals with multiple attackers, as ninja needed to cover all aspects. There are a few main stances in Taijutsu-
Katate Ichimonji no Kamae-The normal stance, wide open and most weight is on the back leg, front arm extended outwards, back arm covers the heart.
Shizen no Kamae (Shizen Tai)-Relaxed natural posture.
Za-gamae (Fudo Za) A horrible way of sitting down, worse then seiza, where one leg is in the *cross leged fashion* and the other leg is in Seiza.
Doko no Kamae-Like ichimonji no kamae, but you hold a rear hand near your ear holding a boshi ken fist.
Kosei-no-Kamae-One hand over the forehead, one hand protecting the groin.
Things unique to Taijutsu are the hand-striking techniques, like Boshi ken where your fist is clenched but your thumb tip protrudes slightly over the top of the fist, Sui ken and Shihan ken ect, The kicking method-It is not a snap kick. Imagine a cobra, rearing up before, the enemy, and then suddenly lashing out. This is a Taijutsu kick metaphor, you raise your knee to your chest inwards, then the leg springs out and you smash with the flat of your foot. This was to deal with Samurai wearing armour.
Taijutsu owns your ass, Karate n00bs.
Taijutsu takes influences from chinese shaolin arts, and was most probably japans oldest formed art, forming just past 1200 AD.
