Used to describe some one's "poor" behavior, unsafe behavior or a person's inability to practice proper social skills.
I could not believe how you handled that situation! You must have been "hit by a stupid stick" this morning.

Totally lacking in the ability to get the job done. Derived from carpenter slang to refer to the metalurgical properties of a nail deformed and bent by extreme resistence in the material being nailed, or due to the inexperience or lack of skill by the person striking the nail. Despite streightening, once the nail is used again, it will tend to deform and bend, rendering it useless.
I sent Bob out to clinch the deal, and instead the client called to cancel the order! I swear, Bob is "Useless as a bent nail."

Pollock Pines is originally a general place name that describes the populated area just East of Placerville, then Camino CA (a town at the end of the railhead from Sacramento CA) and progressing eastward to the 13 Mile Post and then toward the crest of the Sierra Nevada Mountains going from Meyer's Grade, to Echo Summit, then down slope to Lake Tahoe and on to Reno (the next railhead East). Pollock pines encompases many different Stage Stops marked in milage between Placerville, CA and South Tahoe CA. These stops were also used as place names for the original East-West Pony Express route which is very closely mimicked by U.S. HWY 50
Stage Driver: Well, folks, it's time to depart Placerville (old Hangtown) and head up Rupley Grade to Camino for a quick horse change, appropriate libations and personal business, and then up to the ridge of Pollock Pines, where we'll have smooth travel and ample mail stops offering brief rest for all.

Extremely hot to the point of physical displeasure or burning. Derived from 19th century American slang referring to a cheap pistol assembled from mismatching parts with improper tolerances, which when fired became very hot due to poor ignition and burning of the powder charge, and projectile friction from a misaligned chamber and barrel.
My car had been sitting in the sun with the windows up, and when I got inside the steering wheel was hotter than a three dollar pistol.
