Things that are dangerous to talk about, information normally uttered in hushed tones. "To stare at the whispers" means to eavesdrop.
Bar that! Whispers like that will get you killed if someone overhears you!

trolley-womped 

Crushed with great force; maybe in a stampede of concert fans, or perhaps run over by a pedi-cab or bus.
"Sorry I look such a wreck. I just got trolley-womped back there."

Great or best, highest in quality and value.
The really top-shelf stores are all on Rodeo Drive.
A verb meaning to tell or inform, from the phrase "to shed light on".
Be careful, berk, that basher did not shed the total dark on the issue...
