When a TV show or movie uses taboo subjects like death, cancer, racism, old age, rape, guns, domestic abuse, drugs etc is the source of the laughter. That's why it's dark.

Attention Whore

When one person, guy or girl, will do or say anything around a group of people, be it telling stories, or jokes, or talking about themselves. While talking about themselves it forces the spotlight on that guy or girl who will often say outlandish things to bring attention to his/herself. Often times, this person's cry for attention stems from insecurity. Meanwhile, others are annoyed and irritation.

Leland is always the attention whore at parties.

manic pixie dream girl

A female in her 20s who tries to interact with a brooding, loner guy, for she adores him. She acts so cutesy and a little quirky but she believes she was put in this guy's life to change his life and perhaps he will fall for her. She will go to great lengths to please him, showing him the world in her eyes. The guy soon realizes he can't go a day without seeing girl. It gets to a point where she will do absolutely ANYTHING to make his world comfortable, waiting for his requited love and sometimes he ends up taking her for granted. They either fall in love, or the love is unrequited. The Manic Pixie Dream Girl could potentially end up broken hearted. This type of girl was defined by a man who noticed the MPDG behavior in the movie Elizabethtown staring Kirsten Dunst and Orlando Bloom, as well as the film Garden State starring Zach Braff and Natalie Portman.

Pre-code Hollywood movie

The span of time between 1929 (and earlier) and 1934 in film making in Hollywood. In 1930 The Hayes Code was a set of rules to self-love content at the time. These films in 1929-1934
were taboo, dealing with topics too racy for its time such as divorce, sex, violence, implied nudity, etc. The Hayes Code officially came into effect in 1934.
