Slums Of Shaolin

A term referring to the ghettos of New York City's Staten Island district. The term was made famous by rap group Wu-Tang Clan whom hail from the areas (most of the members do any way). By far most, if not all of the "slums of Shaolin" can be found on the boroughs ruff and tumble North Shore. Common characteristics that can be found in the neighborhoods considered the "slums of Shaolin" are drugs, crime, and poverty amongst others.

"Staplton, the Wild West (West Brighton), Park Hill, Port Richmond, Now Borne (New Brighton), Jungle Nillz (Mariners Harbor)" - Method Man, "Shaolin What!?"

Crooked Letter I

The borough of Staten Island, located in New York City. The crooked letter being S and I obviously being I to equal SI which is the abbreviation of Staten Island.

Queens

Arguably New York City's nicest borough, it boasts the the city's second largest population and only it's forth highest crime-rate. It also has the largest number of owner-occupied homes and two-parent familes out of the five boroughs of New York City. It creates equal oppertunities for minorities and immigrants as well. Which is evident considering that more than half of the blacks in Queens own their own homes. As a result Queens houses a good amount of the city's black middle class. It's also the city's most diverse borough, with almost half of it's residents being immigrants.

I learned some of these facts in an article named "Taxing NYC's Soul" by Steven Malanga.

courtesy flush

The first thing you do when you walk into a restroom and other occupied stalls. Flushing before you sit down creates enough noise in the area that other people may be able to finish their business while minimizing embarrassment from excessive flatulence.

Seeing as there was only one stall taken, and given the state of his rotting gut, John gave the other restroom occupant a courtesey flush in hopes that he would finish his business so John could get down to his with the added privacy of being the only one in the restroom.
