whiskey turn

A whiskey turn is performed by a driver having left the bar / a party while not completely hammered, far to drunk to drive and does so anyway, and either under steers or over steers a turn and hits an object, usually a sign or curb, due to being drunk.

The driver will usually drive away from the object they hit and examine the damage the next day, because of the need to focus on just making it home. This type of crash will not total, or structurally damage a vehicle beyond the point of drivability, and is mostly a cosmetic damage.

Usually performed by older males who right before leaving will say to his friends “I’m not even drunk” then perform a whiskey turn
Me and joe went to the bar to celebrate his new promotion at work and he drank 8 beers in 2 hours. On the way home I watched him take a whiskey turn and smash a sign and break off his mirror. I laughed, because I know his wife is gonna kick his ass for driving drunk.

You think me an old fogeyand an old tory, his thoughtful voice said. I saw three generations since O’Connel’s time. I remember the famine. Do you know that the orange lodges agitated for repeal of the union twenty years before O’Connel did or before the prelates of your communion denounced him as a demagogue? You fenians forget some things. (James Joyce, Ulysses. Penguin Books,1992. p. 38)
