Sweepstakes 

Place given in marching competition. In a marching band competition a band is awarded this place when they have scored the highest overall in their respected division. This place is considered better than first and is the the most sought after position in all marching competitions.
The marching band did so well in their division today they beat out all the other bands and were awarded sweepstakes.

Refers to sexual (or romantic) attraction between people who seem unlikely to be compatible. For example, a republican and a democrat, or a pastor and a secular engineer. The reference alludes to the unlikely nature of such a match.

West Midlands slang word for rockers, bikers, greasers etc. In the late 1980s it was used by the UK music press to refer to a specific scene centered around the bands Pop Will Eat Itself and Crazyhead.
