Unlike regular stockpiling—which is just buying extra groceries out of convenience or a good sale—shockpiling is driven by the accepted nihilism that a single major supply chain disruption or infrastructure failure could delete your local grocery store forever.

I'm not saying the global economy is completely cooked, but I just spent my entire rent check shockpiling Spam, Twinkies, and cigarettes. If the power grid collapses next week, I am the new local currency.
