A word rising in popularity that originated in rural German slang. Schwubse is thought to mean something like that of the English word “lover” and is believed to be a Germanization of the English word: “wubs” (also meaning lover). Schwubse is certainly a title of deep endearment and seldom used outside cases of extreme affection.
A shortened form of schwubse exists, schwubs. Schwubs appears to be more common in German American slang than in the original Northern German slang that gave rise to schwubse originally.
