Originally a kolkhoz was a form of collective farm in the Soviet Union. Nowadays this word is used by Russian people to describe poorly executed DIY project. Such projects usually aim to get the job done by simplest and cheapest way, disregarding aesthetics, reliability and safety.

A derogatory term used to describe a person with poor taste, lack of culture, or rural manners. Similar to calling someone a tacky, uneducated villager. Often implies someone who is loud, unfashionable, and unaware of modern social norms.

Origin: Comes from the Russian word kolkhoz (collective farm during the Soviet era). Originally tied to stereotypes of unsophisticated peasants from collective farms, it later evolved into a general insult for someone seen as uncultured or tasteless.
