judeofuturism

(noun): The practice of building Jewish futures out of Jewish memory. The name is new. The practice isn't.

It's a mesorah, a great chain, stretching across Jewish history. Scribes, rebbes, artists, dancers, musicians, scholars, clergy, and politicians have all been links in it, using text, ritual, and memory to imagine what comes next instead of just preserving what already happened.

It shares DNA with Afrofuturism and queer futurity, the same basic move of designing your future on purpose, but the practice itself is older than either. Herzl was doing it in 1902 with Altneuland. The Kabbalists were doing it centuries earlier. Judeofuturism just gave the chain a name.

Not to be confused with slapping a Star of David on a spaceship. That's merchandise.

My bubbe (grandmother) kept every recipe card she ever touched. That's not nostalgia, that's Judeofuturism. Another link in the chain.
