The term affectionately used by residents of the city of Perth in Western Australia, to refer to the area in the south-west of the state underneath Perth.
In general it can refer to the whole area south of Perth and west of Albany, but usually only means the Cape Naturaliste-Cape Leeuwin region, in particular the towns of Busselton, Dunsborough, and Margaret River.

When specifically in the state of Florida, Down South, or in some cases, The South refers to Palm Beach, Broward, and Dade counties. Major cities Down South consist of West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami.

Down South
Many people living in Northern Ireland refer to places across the Irish border as " down South." Ireland consists of thirty two counties. Northern Ireland is known as The Six Counties and the remaining twenty six counties are now known as Ireland. People who do not live in one of the thirty two counties of Ireland have difficulty understanding the Irish situation.
When the new International Rugby season commences many people from Northern Ireland head Down South to Dublin to watch the matches at Lansdowne Road.
