cupfighter

Cupfighter, a person or sports club, often a football club.
Cupfighters often perform different in their country's national cup than in their country's regular
competition and have more will, power and/or success in cup matches.

Person 1: Your club sucks! It endet 5th in the competition!
Person 2: Yes, but they have won the cup, though...
Person 1: Hmm, yeah its strange...
