A restaurant charge incurred by wearing inappropriate footwear to dine. (in Australia thongs=flip flops). Coined by eccentric and controversial Northern Territory restaurateur John Hugh Spellman; who was sick of trying to enforce a dress code in his upmarket Bistro. The charge was put into place in early 2011, days later- after a employee sent a photo of the warning hanging in the front door the story went viral around Australia and the world, with varying responses.
