A restaurant charge incurred by wearing inappropriate footwear to dine. (in Australia thongs=flip flops
). Coined by eccentric and controversial Northern Territory
restaurateur John Hugh Spellman; who was sick of trying to enforce a dress code in his upmarket Bistro. The charge was put into place in early 2011, days later- after a employee sent a photo of the warning hanging in the front door the story went viral around Australia and the world, with varying responses.
That darned Spellman got me with the 'Thongage' charge again! I guess I'll have to remember to wear shoes next time!
