The Hollis Theory
A social phenomenon in which two people with the last name Hollis appear physically incapable of following through with plans. Under the Hollis Theory, any organised event involving a Hollis has an unusually high probability of being cancelled at the last possible moment.
The key principle is Hollis Alternation: if one Hollis is available, the other will cancel. If the usual cancelling Hollis is somehow available, responsibility automatically transfers to the other Hollis, ensuring the plans still fall apart.
Formula:
2 Hollises + 1 plan = 0 plans

Example 1:
"Are the Hollises still coming tonight?"
"No, one of them just cancelled."
"Which one?"
"Does it matter? Hollis Theory."
Example 2: “I knew the Hollis Theory would strike again — we made plans with the Hollises and, right on schedule, one of them cancelled at the last minute.”
