What uneducated, dropout, depressed, (usually American) people who most often have a criminal record put as their education on social media because it’s less embarrassing than saying they couldn’t do something as simplistic as passing basic high school requirements.
To learn something (usually a life lesson) the hard way. (Some say the best way to really learn is to learn from your mistakes.)
