Saving 14 Seconds a Year
A tongue-in-cheek phrase used to justify a tiny, borderline pointless shortcut or efficiency hack. The idea is that even if a habit only saves a couple of seconds each time, the savings add up over a lifetime (supposedly adding up to a whole day). Usually said jokingly while doing something that barely makes a difference, like skipping a step, taking a slightly faster route, or typing a shorter version of a word.
“Why are you holding the door open with your foot instead of just pushing it?”
“Saving 14 seconds a Year, my friend. That’s a whole day by the time I’m 80.”
