A word used the same way that 12 (as in fuck 12) is used in the less wealthy black areas of America's inner cities that are targeted by
police, but is instead typically used by poorer white
people targetted by
police. The use of the word Rosco as a pejorative for police officers comes from the 1975 Moonrunners, which inspired the hit 70's show The Dukes Of Hazard. The show follows the
Duke brothers, two moonshine runners, who consistently outsmart the local sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane and deputies. The term is still popular with older "rednecks", as a traditionally, a distrust in law enforcement was a typical feature of poorer whites in rural America, as opposed to the current back the
blue narrative present today.
