Quarancuffing

The phenomenon wherein a rapid escalation of romantic relationships is observed in response to a global pandemic, most notably the first Covid-19 Pandemic. This most often manifests as some sort of casual fling suddenly becoming more exclusive and committal. Generally, this phenomenon arises because of a bottleneck effect wherein a person's dating pool becomes near-instantly and dramatically limited. This causes people to attempt to secure the nearest and most convenient options available to them in order to avoid loneliness and improve the time they spend social distancing even if that option is significantly lower in quality than their usual partners. These so called "convenient options" are often the latest tinder hook-up or an ex.

Subsequent dequarancuffing is likely to be observed at the first sign of the end of the pandemic, such as the arrival of a vaccine or the lift of quarantine orders.
