alpha puppy 

An "alpha puppy" is a juvenile would-be alpha dog. Commonly found in young (team) sportsmen who have suddenly discovered they have a degree of talent and therefore consider they know it all. Postures as he thinks an alpha dog should posture and expects the respect due to an alpha dog, not realising he hasn't earnt it yet.

What an "apha puppy"! He keeps alpha dogging his mates and gets on everyone's nerves by yapping around trying to tell more experienced players how to behave when he's half their age. Thinks he's a big grown up alpha dog because his team won their age group reps.
