Phlinkus

The fleeting sensation of unease or disorientation that occurs when the brain momentarily misinterprets or reprocesses its perception of reality. It marks the instant when awareness recognizes a subtle mismatch between expectation and experience — a cognitive tremor in which the world seems slightly out of sync before normal understanding resumes.

Phlinkus refers not to the sensory anomaly itself but to the internal reaction it provokes — the almost ineffable awareness that perception has briefly diverged from reality’s rhythm. The experience is typically benign yet deeply noticeable, a soft shudder at the edge of cognition.
