pettifoggery
It refers to engaging in trivial arguments or activities, consuming energy better spent on important matters. Bicker or quibble over trifles or unimportant matters.
Origin: Pettifogger was two separate words: “Pettie Fogger” and “Pettie” was a variant spelling of “petty” and “fogger” may come from the word “fugger” used for hucksters and small-time operator of a shady business.
