Parasitic devices

Any device that keeps drawing power from a system that is supposed to be completely shut off — a TV waiting for its remote, a car computer keeping its memory and clock alive, a smart TV that's "off" but still connected to the internet. They drain batteries dead and make your meter spin for no reason at all.

"My hydro bill made no sense until I walked the house at night counting little red lights — nine parasitic devices in three rooms, all 'turned off.'"
