Mom Dating
The awkward process of trying to befriend other moms so your kids can have playdates. It's part friendship audition, part background check. You're quietly checking whether she's trustworthy and whether your values line up. When the kids are little, the real question is whether you can stand hanging out with her for two hours at the park. When the kids are bigger, it's whether she'll tag team pickups, sleepovers and carpools with you.
example, I stood by the swings for 20 minutes working up the nerve to ask Jake's mom for her number. We talked screen time, snacks and bedtime, and I think we're aligned. Mom dating is exhausting, but I think I just got a second date.
example, I thought mom dating Emma's mom was going great until our first coffee. Five minutes in, she slid a PTA sign-up sheet across the table and asked if I'd 'had a chance to review the bylaws.' There are bylaws. She highlighted them. I said I'd think about it and haven't answered a text since. The kids can still hang out, but that's a hard no for me.
