A portmanteau of lewd and nude, suggesting the use of pornographic material to ease loneliness, relax or to share with others for peer-bonding rather than the explicit purpose of masturbation: either through image boards or discord servers - or larger communities such as gelbooru, sankaku complex or e621.
They typically have more in common with softcore pornography or pinups and are usually drawn, rather than photographed.
A common example is the use of ahegao within the vaporwave and citypop communities.
A nod to quaaludes, a classification of sedative which is also known to ease one's sexual inhibitions.

Lude replaces lewd in written urban usage amongst in the know hip kids. Taken from an abbreviation of the drug quaalude known to lower inhibitions and lead to 'lude' behaviour.

A Quaalude (a tranquilizer, downer), or an abbreviation for a Honda Prelude (but only by the younger generation). Contrary to the belief of some idiots, it is not the word for crass behavior. That would be LEWD, you tools.

Abbreviation for the pharmeceutical named Quaalude. It was used in the 1960s and 1970s as an anxiolytic, for the treatment of insomnia, and as a sedative. It became highly popular for recreational use in the 1980's, particularly in California. The active ingredient is Methaqualone, a depressant which is now a schedule 1 substance in the United States. It is still available for prescription in Canada.
