Kid is used for insults as well. Like:

And kid could be used for any aged person. They don't have to be an actual kid

A term usually to describe a male friend, similar to the usage of 'Bloke' by the British. It can be used in reference to a complete stranger to close family.

It is interchangeable with dude and other slang to describe people. Age is not an issue when using the term.

He seems like a pretty cool kid.
