Human Engineering

The interdisciplinary field concerned with designing systems, environments, and products to be compatible with human physical, perceptual, and cognitive characteristics. Often synonymous with ergonomics or human factors, it's the science of fitting technology to people rather than people to technology. Human Engineering studies the limits of the human body and mind—reach, reaction time, attention span, memory load—and then designs cockpits, software interfaces, and assembly lines that respect those limits. It's the quiet heroism of preventing user error by design.
Human Engineering Example: The placement of a car's brake pedal is Human Engineering. The designers didn't ask "Where can we fit this?" They asked "Where does the human leg expect it to be?" The intuitive swipe gestures on a smartphone are Human Engineering—they map to natural human motor patterns rather than requiring conscious instruction. When the tool disappears into the task, Human Engineering has succeeded.

human engineering problem

a case where the real challenge is to modify or control human behavior rather than design a technological solution. Sometimes used sarcastically (by techies) to imply that a problem is not due to technological deficiencies, but to the fact that humans are so poorly designed.
We know how to produce enough food to feed the world. Eliminating hunger is primarily a human engineering problem.

human factors engineering

i) the process and effects of intentionally playing on a persons attributes to achieve a goal, either directly or indirectly.
I didnt want Amy going out with Mark, but i knew she was planning to go out with him on friday, so i relied on Jenny's gossip mouth by telling her best friend Cathy that Mark had VD. She told everyone else and Amy went out with me instead. Ingenious human factors engineering
A trip to a grocery store, convenience store, or gas station for the sole purpose of buying an excessive amount of junk food and sugary drinks, usually with friends. A chud run often happens late at night and ends with everyone involved hating themselves afterwards.
"Hey bro you tryna go on a chud run with me??"

flophouse

Any house/apartment/frat house/trailer/etc. which is used for individuals to crash (sleep, chill, hang out, lurk, etc.) for a period of time. In order to "crash", one must not actually live there (e.g. have their name on the lease, own said flophouse, etc.). Flophouses are typically used by college students, drug addicts, transients, vagrants, or other unsavory characters.

A flophouse may also be the home owned by the parents of a college student, who after being away at college, wishes to live as if he/she is still at college (e.g. staying out all night, returning just to crash at mom and dad's house, then leaving again), rather than conforming to the pre-college rules.
Example #1
Dude: (Talking to someone passed out face first on the floor of his college apartment) Hey man, who the hell are you? What do you think this is, a flophouse??

Bro: Sorry dude, I must have passed out for a minute.

Example #2
Mom: Where have you BEEN for the last three days? You come home just to sleep?? What do you think this is, a flophouse??!!

Son: What's your problem? I'm an adult now!

Hate Sink

A person you hate intensely not because they deserve such hatred but because they serve as a focus for your general hatred. A healthy way to dispense with excess animosity.
Jake's not really that big an asshole. He just serves as my hate sink.

funiosity

The art of being peculiar, but in an amusing fashion.
"Wow, look at that dog running on three legs"
- "Yeah, that sure is a funiosity"
