Genrelisation 

A simplified definition of the genre of a piece of art, especially (but not limited to) music.

"It's electronica."
"Don't you mean it's post-hardcore apocalyptic punk indie synth pop?"
"Oh, I guess that was a bit of a genrelisation."

genrefication 

The process or idea of classifying music, film, literature, or other such mediums into specific genres or categories.

The genrefication of Led Zeppelin's music can sometimes prove difficult because it contains components of blues, rock, metal, and folk music within a single album, and even in the makeup of an individual song.
