GENDARCHY

The governing structure of gender that survives independently of formal law and reproduces itself through everyday behavior. A system can change constitutions, policies, and official rules while the same hierarchy continues operating through expectations, habits, punishment, and social conditioning.

The law changed years ago. The expectations did not. Nobody had written down who should speak first, who should lead, who should care for whom, or whose anger was acceptable. Yet everyone somehow knew. That invisible governance was gendarchy.
