OMG Sarah, he proposed!" Explains long romantic night. "Well there is no ring and he didn't get down on one knee but this is the real thing. He asked if we could be 'Engaged to be Engaged'."

engaged to be engaged

A stage in the relationship between a monogamous couple when the members are expected to wed in the near future, but will more likely break up next week.
"Fred and Victoria broke up? I thought they were engaged to be engaged!"
"They were, until he watched Keeping up with the Kardashians and realized that marriages never last."

Dismissive engagement / dismissive engaging

Dismissive Engagement / dismissive engaging

When someone half-heartedly enters a debate just to shut it down, insult, or provoke — then immediately claims they don’t care, cutting off any real discussion.

They engage long enough to invalidate your point (or rile you up), but then retreat into “I don’t care” mode so they don’t have to defend themselves. It’s basically a one-way valve for arguments: their opinion goes through, yours gets dismissed.

• You: “I think the government should…”
Them: “That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. But I don’t care anyway, go argue with someone else.”
• You: “Here’s why I like this policy.”
Them: “LMAO that’s trash, but whatever, not my problem.”
