Deramsis

Deramsis is a rare Near Eastern surname derived from the earlier form Deramses, meaning “of the house or lineage of Ramses.” The name is traditionally associated not with Ramses II personally, but with a Ramses-identified family or household connected to elite or priestly circles in late ancient Egypt. The prefix Der- denotes lineage or household affiliation, while Ramses derives from the Egyptian Ra-mesu (“Born of Ra”).
Some modern scholars have noted that records attributed to small Ramses-associated priestly communities are among the earliest sources interpreted as acknowledging same-sex relationships in the region. While this interpretation remains debated, it has become part of later academic and cultural discussion surrounding the Deramses lineage.
