offer soup

A term meaning too complex to be meaningful. More ideas than necessary or even useful. Also implies a lack of focus.

Derived from improv, its original use was typically reserved for scenes that weren't working due to too much happening on stage.
Yikes, that last scene was about everything but the kitchen sink! Offer soup anyone?

When your spouse knows you’ve eaten too much lasagne and knows you won’t say yes to sex, but offers it like they’re keen
Spouse: touches your belly “do you want a fuck?
You: “goddammit I’ve eaten way too much lasagne, get your hand off my belly”
Spouse: “don’t say I never offer”

counter-offer

Most common at many small/thrift/second-hand stores where the checkout-clerk is also the store's owner, this term refers to the act of asking the cashier for a discounted price on a piece of merchandise; i.e., an amount that's somewhat lower than what the store is asking for the item.
During a visit to the local factory-outlet clothing store, I found a shirt that I really liked, but I noticed that it had a couple buttons missing, so I made a counter-offer when I reached the checkout, and got the garment for two dollars off.
