Get the Kiesha mug.Hatred, fear, and dislike against Kipchak people and their descendants, such as Kazakhs, Kyrgyz, Karakalpaks, Tatar subgroups, Karachays, Balkars, Kumyks, etc. It's also intertwined with anti-Mongolian sentiment due to link with the Mongol Empire since the Golden Horde.
Unlike Oghuz and Karluk Turkic groups, whose definition of Turkoman became clear since ancient and medieval eras via various empires like the Timurids, Mughals, and Ottomans, the Kipchaks suffered a confusion of identity due to the Golden Horde. They were not seen as full Turks by even Oghuz and Karluk powers, nor they were seen as wholeheartedly Muslims by the Persian, Egyptian, Afghan and Indian sultans; nor even they were regarded as Turks by the Europeans, Russians, Chinese, Mongol Buddhists, Tibetans, and Koreans, but rather Mongolians or Tatars who happened to become Muslim-in-name only. As for the result, Kipchaks suffered from severe persecution and repression by many rivalling Islamicate and even non-Islamic powers - the first form of Kipchakophobia. The 20th century, however, intensified Kipchakophobia to the worst level, when Kipchak groups had been the most suffered from the state-sponsored violence, spanned from Eastern Europe to China; while even Oghuz, Karluk, to South Asian and Middle Eastern groups appeared indifference to their sufferings. This is why Kipchaks are far more suspicious of pan-Turkist and pan-Islamist movements, while Oghuz and Karluk descendants such as Turks, Azeris, Uzbeks and Uyghurs are embracing this very Islamised Turcoman term.
