A derogatory term for person who exhibit offensive, hateful, moronic or unbearably pretentious behavior to an exaggerated degree, that can be used on a man or a woman.
Derived from the derogatory American specific use of the word "twat" and the word "hippopotamus". The first word provides the implication of the unfavorable traits whereas the second just implies the extremeness of the individual's behavior as a metaphorical use of the animal's large size.
I will not state her name, but my own mother was the first person I ever heard use this term and she stated that the word was of her own creation. I claim that she is the originator of this term. I write this entry as shortly after she used the term on social media, Facebook memes appeared that made use of the term. Thus, this entry exists for all those that happen upon those memes who became curious for its definition and origin.
