liberal education requirement

A class required by the higher education system. It assists no one in the completion of any type of degree. The knowledge is forgotten once the class is complete and the money you spent on it is wasted because the class benifits no one at all.

College Student 1: "Hey man what liberal education requirement class are you taking?"

College Student 2: "I'm taking a chemistry lab because when I get my accounting degree I'll have to mix chemicals....a lot."

College Student 1: "I would rather just throw the money into my toilet and flush it down then take these ridiculous classes."

The act of intentionally constructing and promoting an idealized self in a very public way, and often obnoxiously. It's critical to note that the projected self is not always received as idealized, but more often as immature, angsty, self-involved and attention-seeking.

Judd: Did you see the new cast of The Real World?
Pam: I did. It's so disappointing that the producers can't see beyond the fakery and the posing. I thought The Real World was about getting beyond labels, smashing the superficial, and seeing the process of individuals' identity construction in the context of diversity.
Judd: I know, and it's sad. Now it's just a bunch of egocasting in the context of drunken hookups.
Pam: Pathetic.

Lynchian education

Noun. A universal paradigm of adolescent education. The Lynchian teacher is very strong in his or her opinions and expects students to agree with him or her. If in a classroom setting, grades are usually based on subjectively-graded papers. Papers are reflective of (1) how much the subject material agrees with the teacher's personal views, and (2) the worth of the student in the teacher's eyes. Usually, this results in students getting a single grade on every paper regardless of content.

No curves are instituted in a Lynchian classroom. 100% is restricted to the student the instructor feels "deserves" it the most. Despite these flaws, Lynchian educators are usually looked up to by fellow academics as models of "awesomeness" or "tradition."

Mr. Salmonelli is a good guy, but his commitment to Lynchian education worries many students.
