Trigger

Trigger is either an action or an object. It may refer to two things:
(1) An object in a firearm, commonly referred to as “the trigger”, that, when pressure is applied to it, causes the firearm to discharged, by means of a mechanism.
(2) An act or event that causes a reaction of some sort.

HOWEVER.
Trigger is NOT a word that can describe a negative reaction to a piece of literature, an opinion, a fact, or an opposing statement. The correct word for that is “overreacting”, or a combination of words, such as “an overly sensitive person who doesn’t like to hear opposing options”.
Don’t like it? Too bad. The word “trigger”, alongside many other words, is not yours to be manipulated.
(1) His finger had to pull the trigger, in order to save his own life, in the face of the attempted murder.
(2) She was having some bad allergies, triggered by the pollen in the air.
