viking metal

An offshoot from black metal heavily centered in norse mythology and rituals. Viking metal is not satanic in nature because of this and deals mostly with Oden, viking warriors and of course epic battle (very cheesy stuff, but effective). The music ususally consists of more "medieval" sounding melodies mixed with the "dark" sounding minors typical of black metal.

Enslaved, Einherjer and Amon Amarth are good viking metal bands.

stoner metal

Sub-style of metal. Sometimes also known as "doom metal" due to its often agonizingly slow pace, crushing heaviness, and gloomy lyrics. It's generally accepted to have been invented by Black Sabbath. Some stoner metal bands are retro-oriented, some aren't. Common elements include marijuana references (obviously), sci-fi/fantasy themes, extended instrumental jams, and tempos anywhere from plodding dirges to medium-paced rock (but rarely faster). Heavy-ass guitar riffage is essential.

Notable bands include Kyuss, Sleep, Fu Manchu, Monster Magnet, Electric Wizard, Orange Goblin, etc.

Stoner metal is cool, but I don't like the retro aesthetic a lot of bands use.

melodic death metal

A variation on death metal, also known as "Melodeath." Bands in this genre seem to have borrowed many of the traits of thrash, and combined them with classical death metal. For instance, these bands tend to have longer songs, more guitar melody/solos, and much more diverse lyrics. Blast beats are used, but not quite as often as they are in the more classical style of death metal. Vocals tend to be a mixture of the higher black-metal-style growls and the lower death-metal-style ones. Some of the newer bands have even been making limited use use of clean vocals (i.e., Profane Omen, Absence, Chimaira). As far as the mood...this style tends to be a lot less doomy than black metal (i.e., more lively, and not so depressing).

It can be argued that this style began with the band Carcass and their release of the album called "Heartwork." Carcass was originally more of a Grindcore-type band, but slowly refined their style, and progressed into a more and more melodic form of metal, until "melodic death metal" or "melodeath" was born. Since then, hundreds of bands have come about exhibiting many of the same qualities, such as In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, Arch Enemy, Fear My Thoughts, Shadow, Light This City, The Autumn Offering, etc.

Thrash metal is a subgenre of heavy metal music. The origins of thrash metal are generally traced to the late 1970s and early 1980s, when a number of heavy metal bands began incorporating speed metal's extreme speed into traditional metal melody and riffs.

Basically, It's the future of sex. Once a sexy female robot comes around and you have sex with her, you won't want to settle for less. With robotic women: no STD, no pregnancy, no condom, no problem. The term "Once you go metal, you won't want to settle can be seen in a poster featuring Jenny Wakeman(XJ9). Jenny XJ9 is an attractive robot from the show "My Life as a Teenage Robot". It is after XJ9 got the 18 year old upgrade in rule 34 that the term, "once you go metal, you won't want to settle" began to be used. It get's hotter. Jenny wakeman is hot! Jenny XJ9 is sexy! Jenny Wakeman is from the show MLaaTR. I would pick Jenny XJ9 over a human any day.

metatroll

A metatroll is an internet troll who trolls by deliberately provoking or 'feeding' other internet trolls, attempting to make them believe that people are reacting seriously to the original troll attempt, or attempting to provoke other people into believing the metatroll has fallen for the original troll when in fact the metatroll has not done so.

Troll on Yahoo! Answers: 'OMG I just sat on the baby I was babysiting and broke its neck how do I dispose of the body Casey Anthony style!!1?1'
Metatroll: 'Ur an awful humna beingg and I have reported this to the policce, the CIA, and the UN!'
Original troll: 'NOO but it was totes non-deliberate!!'
