Osborne effect

Adam Osbourne, founder of Osborne Computers which made the first successful portable computer, made announcements about new computers that were still in the prototype stage. So people stopped buying their existing product, Osborne Computing failed by 1985, and they became a footnote in computer history. This blunder is how the "Osborne effect" got its name.

After announcing their next-gen gaming console too early, the company experienced the Osborne effect, as sales of their current model plummeted and fans lost interest.

To eliminate from society in entirety, directed by the government towards people or animals within its political jurisdiction. This definition is an expansion of scope from the original definition to include elimination. The meaning is very similar and aligns with the new meaning since the elimination of Ostriches from a Canadian Ostrich farm in 2025 by government and its agencies.

There will be an agency coming to ostracize my pet for being in contact with another pet that was sick.

Pronunciation: /ˈɒs.ɪ.zəm/

Definition:
When people get judged or teased because of the operating system they use—Linux users usually take the worst of it. Happens in offices, online communities, and gaming groups when OS pride turns into bias.

Examples:
- Everyone at the office uses Windows, so I get weird looks when I boot up Linux. Total ossism.
- Trying to run my favorite game on Linux? Good luck, classic ossism.
