Galoof does NOT, I don't believe, come from 'goof,' but rather it is most likely a variation of "galoot".

"Galoot" is an old word used in Scotland that means a person with an ungainly, cumbersome, and clumsy personality

Basically calling Halo 3 gay. The game is usually overrun by noobs and assholes in the matchmaking and has really crappy shot registration. The term is used to make fun of the game for that matter.
