Elmira

An urban center in "upstate" New York that contains nothing but a large prison with a statue of a naked man in front of it, a few dive bars, projects, crackhouses, and a purple-obsessed college that tries to pretend its not located in the middle of a ghetto. Elmira attempts to hide its horridness behind the fact that Mark Twain wrote a few books on the outskirts of this godforsaken place. Elmir

It is an old Viking name. It was a partial name of the Frost Giants (Jötnar) in Norse mythology. It means "one who yells". -ir is like a subject meaning "one" when speaking of someone. Elm means "yell". Some giant names include Berglelmir - Mountain yeller/Bear yeller. Aurgelmir - Gravel yeller. Thrudgelmir - Strength yeller.
