A car produced by Holden (Australian division of
General Motors) and Isuzu from 1975. This car was also sold in Japan, America and Europe, as the Gemini, Imark and Kadett
respectively. Rear wheel drive (real) models (TX,TC,TD,TE,TF,TG) stopped in Australia in 1985, and were followed on by a front-wheel-drive which noone really cares about, called the RB. This model was, however, sold in limited turbo editions in some countries.
The rear-wheel-drive Gemini was generally powered by a 1.6L 4 cylinder sohc carburettor engine backed by a 4 or 5 speed manual, or a rarer automatic gearbox. A ZZ/R
special edition model was released in sedan and coupe featuring different styling, an LSD diff, and a far more advanced 1.8L twincam EFI Isuzu engine called the G180W. Other engines which can be bolted in include 1.8L and 2L versions of the
original 1.6L (G161z, G180Z, G200Z) and a 2L version of the twincam, called the G200W.
Modifications to the base Gemini models tend to include weber carburetters,
performance cams, new exhaust systems, mag wheels, new suspension, etc. Whilst starting as a fairly low powered car, they feature rear wheel drive and a kerb weight of just over 900kg, and have therefore a lot of potential for being very fast and fun cars.
